Random (and jetlagged) Thoughts of our first days in Thailand

We’ve been in Thailand for over 2 weeks now, and I feel like our initial arrival is now ancient history.  Since we just moved into our permanent house, we finally have Internet!  I’m going to do some quick recaps…

Our overall flight, though lengthy, went very smoothly as the kids and adults overdosed on videos.  (I think Carston watched the Lego movie 3 times in a row, as if he’d never seen it.)  Though we were thrilled to finally land, the jetlag was rough, especially on the kids.  Camryn has always been an early riser, but 3 am is early even for her.  We did compensate by falling asleep at 4 pm, in restaurants, on golf carts, etc.

The jetlag is only beginning.

Time: Just shy of 3 pm

We were in temporary housing in a neighborhood called Regent.  The homes here are huge, and I find myself getting a lot exercise just roaming from room to room as I try to remember where I put things from our 10 suitcases we brought with us.

Our first day we started to get acclimated through advice and help from our office sponsor’s wife, who is now one of our very good friends here.  Our kids played Uno with hers and we all ate at a popular restaurant called Que Pasa.  The owner is originally from Texas (notice all the US license plates in the background).  We had a delicious appetizer called crispy fried morning glory, which is actually a vegetable, though I’m not sure the dish is that healthy when fried. 

Since we had to pack lightly, (I realize 10 suitcases doesn’t seem light) the kids have had very little to play with.  The kids have been playing with Legos constantly, and they’ve watched the two movies we have Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and an animated version of Lion, Witch and Wardrobe about 5 times each.

The boys didn’t know we had their Lego stuff with us the 10 days before we actually moved and are so excited to be reunited with their Legos.

 Since our arrival, it has felt like one big vacation.  And now that school has started, I can really start my 3 year holiday!  Over the next few days, I’ll fill you in on school and everything in between.
